2021/2022 COMMITTEE RECRUITMENT

BUPS is seeking to recruit a new current committee for the 2021/22 academic year. If you would like to make a positive contribution to student life in the Bartlett School of Planning and develop some new skills for your CV and personal development, this is a great opportunity to take advantage of!

  • Please prepare a short write-up introducing yourself and your interests, which role you are interested in and why you think you are the best person for the job.

  • Please include a list of your tentative availability (days and times - weekdays only) between the 24th of May and the 4th of June for us to schedule interviews, with the timezone indicated. 

  • Please note that all applicants are able to apply for up to two positions as advertised.

 

Interviews dates will be announced at a later date and will take place online.

COMMITTEE RESPONSIBILITES

Chair

Responsbilities

  • Act as an effective student leader within the BSP, promoting involvement in BUPS, understanding of urban issues, challenges and opportunities within the BSP student community and ensuring that public/private planning, urban design and real estate interests are catered for 

  • Agree effective Committee arrangements and job descriptions with the Director of Undergraduate Programmes 

  • Chair BUPS Meetings and ensure collective decisions are made on strategy, finance, communications and events, taking urgent decisions in consultation with the Committee between meetings

  • Facilitate an effective working relationship with the Bartlett School of Planning, including the Head of School, Director of Undergraduate Programmes, BSP Careers Lead, BSP Planning Office and wider staff, including the approval of spending, events and communications 

  • Lead partnership working with student representatives, transition mentors, external guests and speakers

  • Lead and coordinate the development and implementation of the BUPS Strategic Plan and Events Programme, ensuring the proposed objectives and deadlines are achieved

  • Lead decisions on financial priorities and oversee financial planning and monitoring with the Treasurer

  • Coordinate preparations for major BUPS events

  • Coordinate an effective joint approach to marketing and communications via multiple media channels with the Marketing and Communications Officers

  • Ensure provision for difficult-to-reach groups within the BSP student population

  • Ensure BUPS is responsive to the views and priorities of students and is transparent in its decision making

  • Lead the recruitment of a new BUPS Committee for the following academic year of the society in partnership with the Director of Undergraduate Programmes and Undergraduate Programmes Manager   

Vice-Chair

Responsbilities

  • Perform the role of Chair in their absence or resignation

  • Assist the Chair in the leadership and coordination of his/her responsibilities 

  • Support HelpHub development with the Careers Officer 

Treasurer

Responsbilities

  • Manage financial planning and budget monitoring, ensuring an effective and efficient utilisation of resources

  • Work with the BSP Office to arrange buying of goods and services, including ongoing website subscriptions and organise expense refunds for Committee Members

  • Advise Committee Members on the expenses process and ensure the itemized receipts are always obtained at off-site events 

  • Lead coordination of hospitality and catering provision for events, working with the Student Experience Officer, ensuring catering trigger deadlines are met

  • Support the organisation and practice events including talks, debates, workshops, educational visits, etc.   

Secretary

Responsbilities

  • Take minutes of all Committee Meetings, circulating these to Committee Members and publishing once agreed

  • Manage internal communications and file sharing within the Committee

  • Advise the Committee on event scheduling in line with BSP student timetables and the UCL calendar

  • Secure and coordinate room bookings for events and meetings

  • Respond to BUPS email enquiries in a timely manner

  • Co-develop and administer the BUPS Student Blog, promoting participation from staff, students, PhD candidates and partners 

  • Support the organisation and practice events including talks, debates, workshops, educational visits, etc.

  • Co-administer the ‘Building Blocks: Big Data for Urban Design’ moodle page

Careers Officer

Responsbilities

  • Manage, update, expand and promote the BSP HelpHub to provide information to students about internships and employment opportunities.

  • Lead the organisation of career-specific events such as alumni/ employer talks and networking events

  • Liaise with the BSP Careers Tutor, to ensure effective integration with and promotion of BSP Careers progression events

  • Advise Committee on upcoming external events, activities and internships

  • Support the organisation and practice events including talks, debates, workshops and educational visits

Marketing Officer

Responsbilities

  • Design engaging, high quality event adverts and society branding. 

  • Manage the design and purchasing of branded merchandise items, ensuring value for money

  • Co-Administer the BUPS Social Media Pages (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn, Linktree) accounts. This includes responding to enquiries in a timely manner

  • Support the organisation and practice events including talks, debates, workshops and educational visits

Communications Officer

Responsbilities

  • Compile and send a high quality BUPS Newsletter, promoting our activities and disseminating external opportunities and news

  • Administer the BUPS website, ensuring the information and media content it provides is up to date, high quality and easy to navigate

  • Co-develop and administer the BUPS Student Blog, promoting participation from staff, students, PhD candidates and partners  

  • Support the organisation and practice events including talks, debates, workshops and educational visits
