RICS was founded in London as the Institution of Surveyors after a meeting of 49 surveyors at the Westminster Palace Hotel on 15 June 1868. HOW TO BECOME A CHARTERED MEMBER AFTER I GRADUATE?
Once you have completed your degree you must apply for a graduate scheme with a RICS accredited company, where you will work towards your APC (Assessment of Professional Competence) and professional accreditation.

apply for RICS membership AS soon as you're in relevant employment
As soon as you have graduated with a fully RICS accredited degree and entered relevant employment, you can apply for RICS membership.
Before you apply for the APC you must have the equivalent of a minimum of 24 months' structured training and a minimum of 96 hours' Continuing Professional Development (CPD).

Gain 2 years of full-time work with a Relevant rICS accredited company
All RICS membership applicants must maintain a log book covering the equivalent of a 12 months' full-time relevant work experience.
You should also identify a suitable mentor/counsellor to support you during this important stage of your APC.

Applicants must prepare a written submission demonstrating their experience and how they have developed their competence.

Develop your competence in your chosen pathway at this stage, before you come forward for final assessment.

The APC assessment is in two parts
Written and Interview:

The Written Submission involves providing:
- a summary of your current work experience post-graduation.
- 3,000-4,000 words on how you meet the technical competencies.
- 1,500 words on how you meet the mandatory competencies.
- A case study: 3,000 words about a project you have worked on, focusing on the technical competencies.

CPD
(Continuous Professional development)
Applicants will need to upload a minimum of 48 hours of CPD per structured training year with your online submission.

Also applicants must complete the online ethics assessment.
5.
The Final Assessment Overview
The Interview: 60 minutes includes:

10 minute presentation

10 minutes of questions based on your presentation

25 minutes of questions based on your technical competencies

10 minutes of questions based on mandatory competencies.
6.
get your results
The results of your APC will be available after your submission date on the ARC. If you passed you will gain your accreditation and become a Chartered Surveyor. Congratulations you are now part of a network of over 125,000 professionals worldwide.
